Jim Corbett Wildlife Tour

India's oldest national park — the Bengal tiger's original sanctuary

Overview

Why Visit

Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand is the oldest national park in India, established in 1936, and the birthplace of Project Tiger — India's landmark conservation programme launched in 1973. Situated at the foothills of the Himalayas where the Ramganga River flows through sal and haldi forest, Corbett is home to over 250 Bengal tigers and 600+ Asian elephants. The Dhikala zone — the park's remote grassland heartland — offers one of the most immersive wildlife photography environments in India, with tiger, elephant, and bird encounters against a dramatic mountain backdrop.

Nitin's Tips

Experiencing Jim Corbett Wildlife Tour

Jim Corbett rewards patience. The Dhikala zone requires an overnight forest rest house permit (limited availability) that Nitin arranges months in advance, and the extended time inside allows photography at the magic hours before day visitors arrive. The Ramganga riverbed creates natural congregation points for elephants, gharial crocodiles, and otters at dawn. Corbett's resident tigers are less habituated to vehicles than Tadoba or Ranthambore, making sightings rarer and more precious — when they occur, they are typically in open grassland with full photographic opportunity. A 500–600mm lens is essential.
