Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to almost half the world's remaining mountain gorillas. With fewer than 1,100 mountain gorillas left on earth — all confined to a small area of the Virunga volcanoes and Bwindi — a gorilla trekking permit is among the most exclusive wildlife experiences available. The trek through ancient Afromontane rainforest to reach the habituated gorilla families can take between one and six hours, and the hour spent in the gorillas' presence is consistently described by guests as the most profound wildlife experience of their lives.

Experiencing Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Mountain gorilla photography demands absolute stillness and patience. You have one hour with the gorillas — no more. Nitin prepares guests thoroughly before the trek: camera settings for forest light, behaviour to expect, how to move and position without disturbing the group. The silverback will often approach to within two to three metres, and the temptation to back away must be resisted — Nitin coaches guests to hold their ground and their focus. The most powerful images come from eye-contact moments: a silverback looking directly into the lens with an intelligence that is unmistakably close to human.
