Uganda
Kibale National Park
The world's best chimpanzee trekking in ancient rainforest
Overview
Why Visit
Kibale National Park protects one of Africa's most intact and biodiverse tropical rainforests — and hosts the world's highest density of primates. The park's habituated chimpanzee communities offer some of the most extraordinary primate photography available anywhere on earth: chimpanzees are our closest living relatives, sharing 98.7% of our DNA, and their expressions, social dynamics, and tool use are endlessly compelling. Kibale also harbours red colobus, black-and-white colobus, L'Hoest's monkey, and the rare red-tailed monkey — all in a single forest walk.
Nitin's Tips
Experiencing Kibale National Park
Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale is one of the most demanding and rewarding wildlife photography experiences in Africa. The chimps move fast through dense forest, and Nitin works with the experienced rangers to anticipate where the group will settle — positioning for the moments when a chimpanzee makes direct eye contact, grooms a companion, or displays for dominance. The forest's dappled light creates challenges: Nitin guides guests on ISO management and exposure for high-contrast forest conditions. Early morning treks capture chimps in their most active period, foraging and vocalising across the canopy.
