Overview
About This Tour
Amboseli is arguably the world's finest location for elephant photography. The herds are large, relaxed, and intimately familiar with vehicles — allowing close, unhurried encounters that are simply not possible elsewhere in East Africa. Combined with the extraordinary backdrop of Kilimanjaro, the photographic potential here is unique on the continent. Nitin times early morning drives to maximise clear-sky windows when the mountain is most visible.
Day by Day
Arrival & Afternoon Drive
Drive from Nairobi or fly to Amboseli airstrip. First encounter with the elephant herds.
📷 Late afternoon elephant silhouettes against warm light.
Kilimanjaro Morning
Pre-dawn departure to position for elephant herds with Kilimanjaro backdrop before cloud builds.
📷 Elephants and Kilimanjaro at first light — the definitive Amboseli shot.
Swamp & Water Sources
The Amboseli swamps attract huge concentrations of wildlife. Hippo pools, wading elephants, and stalking predators.
📷 Elephants in the swamp spray water — backlit steam and droplets.
Predator & Bird Focus
Lions and cheetahs are present year-round. Amboseli is also outstanding for birds — over 600 species recorded.
📷 Crowned crane against the Kilimanjaro backdrop.
Final Morning & Departure
One final dawn drive before returning to Nairobi.
📷 Bull elephant portrait in oblique morning light.
